Also known as Weheragala National Park, Zone V is a year-round wildlife destination and one of the best zones in Yala to spot leopards. When Zone I is closed during seasonal breaks, Zone V becomes the top choice for leopard enthusiasts, thanks to its consistently high sighting rates.

At the heart of this zone lies the stunning Weheragala Reservoir, offering panoramic views and serving as a rich habitat for water birds, raptors, and other wildlife. Along the public road leading to the park entrance, elephant sightings are common, making the journey itself part of the adventure.

With open terrain, scenic beauty, and exceptionally rich biodiversity, Zone V offers an unforgettable safari experience for both first-time visitors and seasoned wildlife lovers.

Special Notes for Safari Visitors

Currency: Only Sri Lankan Rupees accepted at the park.
Resident Permit: Carry your Sri Lankan resident permit physically to get local ticket rates.

Safari Timings:

Morning Safari: Be at the park entrance by 6:00 AM
Evening Safari: Be there by 2:30 PM

Ticket Counter:

Opens at 6:00 AM, closes at 4:00 PM
Must buy tickets before 4:00 PM

Park Hours: Open from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

No driving allowed between 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Dress Code: Wear light-colored clothes to avoid disturbing wildlife.

Vehicle Rules:

Do not leave valuables unattended.
Do not get down from the vehicle except at designated areas.

Prohibited: Alcohol, fire, loud music, feeding animals, collecting animal/plant material.

Before Leaving: Check you have taken all your belongings.

Essentials: Bring camera battery, sunglasses, insect repellent, water, and snacks (if not included in your package).
